Final report from 08.11.2022: Overwhelming! Faszination Modellbau & IMA make expert visitors, exhibitors and families equally happy.

Overwhelming! Europe’s most popular miniatures event and the largest model railroad exhibition in Europe make trade visitors, exhibitors and families equally happy.

It was a very special model building weekend from November 04-06, 2022 in the border triangle at Lake Constance, as Europe’s most popular and beautiful miniatures event is back on stage in all its glory with 326 exhibitors from 11 nations and over 43,000 visitors from all over the world! Together with the Friedrichshafen premiere of the IMA-International Model Railway Exhibition and the iconic Echtdampf-Hallentreffen, Faszination Modellbau 2022 was an overwhelming success. For three days were ausual shows, numerous highlights, excellent new products, cinematic demonstrations, lots of indoor and outdoor action and inspiring inspiring hands-on activities on the program.

“First of all, I would like to sincerely thank the agile, creative and professional model building community for this fantastic weekend. With over 1,500 idealistic participants in all areas, such as model railroading, steam modelling, aircraft modelling, truck modelling, ship modelling and plastic and cardboard modelling, all branches of the modelling hobby were vividly represented. The many hands-on activities of various kinds were extremely valuable, especially for the kids and teens. Our commercial exhibitors were also very satisfied, especially with the great numbers and the good business,” said a pleased Sascha Bürkel, Project Manager of the Model Making Fairs Division of the Messe Sinsheim/Schall team.

For three days, the entire world of miniatures on land, water and in the air was on display in nine large, bright exhibition halls, two foyers and at the directly adjacent Lake Constance Airport. Many new products, model highlights, demonstrations and courses of the model building industry lined the attractive exhibition grounds in the border triangle and exuded the unique spirit of this unique triple event with Faszination Modellbau, Echtdampf-Hallentreffen and the International Model Railway Exhibition (IMA) 2022.

“The first IMA at the Friedrichshafen location was a complete success for the industry. We can look back on a super event at which we welcomed visitors from all over Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy and others to our stand. With the IMA in Friedrichshafen, a large catchment area was reached. Our Märklin event team had many contacts and consultations. As you know, the Märklin brand connects generations and so we were particularly pleased that the hands-on play areas were full of enthusiastically playing kids every day from morning to night. We are very satisfied and are already looking forward to IMA 2024 here at its new place-to-be,” sums up Eric-Michael Peschel, Head of Event Marketing at the industry leader.

Personal advice is often neglected in our consumer behavior, which is increasingly dominated by online purchases – at the large model building event, this could now be enjoyed to the full. Rummage, look, ask, discuss, marvel and buy well advised, the contact of manufacturers and dealers to the customer and vice versa is ultimately just by nothing to replace.

And so the annual Faszination Modellbau delights many national and international guests with its cross-disciplinary combination of technically oriented topics such as aircraft, ship and truck modelling, model trains and steam modelling. This model building highlight not only brings the current model building season to its climax and conclusion, but this trade show also marks the transition into the new year. And that means: Numerous new models, technology, electronics and accessories awaited the visitors in Friedrichshafen. Accordingly, the trade fair audience could look forward to lots of innovations from all sectors! Here are a few examples: Brawa came with novelties in the gauges H0 and N, NOCH Modell-Landschaftsbau with its novelty diorama 2022, Faller showed a tunnel boring machine as well as an impressive model based on the main station in Neustadt, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Herpa presented a model of a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter specially made for the International Model Railroad Exhibition in the trade show design. ScaleArt showed its new “Classic Line” and thrilled with its special exhibition on the subject of “Unimog”, Viessmann brought its motorized road vehicles with the revolutionary technology “CarMotion”, Hacker Motor unveiled its new console transmitter and Multiplex was “back for good” after a short break from the fair with a large booth, large team and new products.

An absolutely fascinating and long-awaited highlight this year was also the premiere of the illuminated night rides on the truck course and on the snow groomer course, the visitors were thrilled! What could be more beautiful than to let the miniatures shine in the choreographically exactly set lights of the show illumination moving to suitable music? Various topics were staged and demonstrated here for the audience in a film-like manner.

Whether it’s steam punk at the Echtdampf-Hallentreffen, beautiful star rides or fun duck pushing at the Schiffsmodellbauern, excellent miniature parades on the exhibition podiums, sophisticated RC drifts by nimble RC motorcycles or cool RC cars, high-speed action in the drone hall or applauding crowds of fans to the incomparably heavenly FMT flight show “Stars of the Year”, Faszination Modellbau is a unique fascination for a wonderful audience every year.

“We are happy that the Faszination Modellbau including IMA and Echtdampftreffen is back in full force and stronger than ever before. Our weekend concept with Friday for the trade public, Saturday for the trade public, interested parties and Friends as well as the wonderful family Sunday is working perfectly and gives us great pleasure as organizers,” says Andreas Wittur, authorized signatory of Messe Sinsheim, summing up the triple event 2022.

After the fair is before the fair! The next Faszination Modellbau will take place from 03. to 05 November 2023 in Friedrichshafen in the border triangle of Germany, Switzerland, Austria. Save the date, the countdown starts now.
